The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans issued by the US against five European individuals working on combating online hate and disinformation, an EU official stated.
EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe such as the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the visa restrictions targeted figures who have been central to efforts to enact legislation governing US-based technology firms.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to coerce American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they oppose,” stated a senior US official online. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives joined the French president in condemning the decision.
The restrictions were enacted this week against a former EU commissioner who helped draft the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as several anti-disinformation campaigners, from two in Germany and two in the UK.
