Multiple Injured as In-Flight Disturbance Strikes Delta Flight Arriving in Sydney

Delta Airlines reported the plane encountered "short-lived instability" as it arrived at Sydney Airport.

A number of individuals sustained injuries when a Delta Airlines aircraft traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney was hit by rough air on Friday morning.

Flight DL41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it made its approach and landed at the Sydney airport, an airline spokesperson stated. Four flight attendants required medical attention.

The New South Wales Ambulance Service stated they treated a total of five people, and took three to a medical facility with relatively minor issues that included pain in the back and head pain. The patients' ages were between their 30s up to the 70s.

It is the most recent case of planes being hit by atmospheric disturbance, with researchers saying that climate change is a significant contributor.

The aircraft was carrying nearly 250 travelers and a crew of 15 on the aircraft, the representative noted, adding that the plane touched down "without further incident" at the airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on Friday.

The NSW Ambulance Service indicated they got a call just three minutes ahead of the plane touched down, and response teams were standing by on the runway.
