The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
The first season introduces a large cast of characters residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds with musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner stated recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on October 29.
