The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Boost Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Comes After Poor Feedback

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the need for a clearer direction.

The president noted that the team is now overhauling the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to address player expectations.

Trend of Key Recruitment

This announcement mirrors a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the complete message from the president's communication:

Team—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”

With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the necessity for a sharper brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to achieve its promise to our fans.

Our confidence in this project strengthens every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of the team. After some time of talks, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.

Ben’s leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming field is vast, having dedicated the past decade and a half developing and managing some of the most popular series in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in receiving Ben next week. We are all excited to keep witnessing the evolution of the game in the time to come.

The President

Background of the Incoming Head

Brinkman presently holds the position of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in various production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.

Title Information and Vision

The upcoming game was revealed in last year together with a community playtest. Initially, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Face the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that change every match. Do you safely extract with your collected items? Or take a risk, risk it all, and trust your team can earn top ranking? The option is yours."

The game has not yet received an announced launch window or consoles, but players can expect more updates as creation advances.
